We are eager to collect your ideas for breakout sessions and workshops at this year's 2021 Unity Summit, set for October in Minneapolis, MN. You may submit more than one Session Idea. Whether your idea is polished or still in development, we are interested to understand your idea through the questions in the form here. If selected for the 2021 Unity Summit, we will work with you to finalize the session before it goes live in October.
This open call for sessions ideas will gather proposals for content to be presented there. Questions asked are both to better understand your idea and how your work and idea fit into the landscape of philanthropic practice, the Unity Summit goals and focus areas. Below is more detail on some of the critical considerations to align your session towards the Unity Summit and notes on what we are seeking in the session ideas.
At the 2021 Unity Summit, we will explore strategies for utilizing power to advance philanthropic equity. Specifically, we are looking for examples of how philanthropy can support structural and institutional CHANGE through two focus areas:
Internal organizational practice - work focused on climate and culture, realizing intersectional racial equity within philanthropic organizations
External practice - use of capital, ways of engaging with community, methods for leveraging collective power
Session ideas should align with one or more of the Unity Summit goals:
Highlight how to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion towards liberation into philanthropic practice.
Amplify racially equitable philanthropic practices that address structural and institutional change.
Magnify community priorities of our partners with an intersectional approach.
In addition to aligning with the Unity Summit goals, we are interested in addressing the following key issues areas:
- Abolition, Police Accountability & Decriminalization of Communities
- Black Liberation
- Climate Justice
- Disability Justice
- Disability Inclusion
- Economic Justice
- Gender Justice
- Immigrant & Refugee Rights
- Indigenous Rights & Tribal Sovereignty
- Health Equity
- Healing Justice & Wellbeing
- LGBTQ Rights
- Multiracial Democracy
- Narrative Change
- Organizational Culture
- Racial Equity
- Racial Justice
- Reproductive Justice
- Rural Organizing
We are seeking diverse formats and speaker groups that represent a diversity of identities, experience and communities.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continually assessing the best possible format to convene given the conditions. We will make a formal decision by April 2021 to confirm the event format; all selected sessions will be supported in adapting to the necessary parameters. For the purpose of these applications, please assume an in-person conference format.
The 2021 Unity Summit will be rooted in Minneapolis, MN—whether we convene there in person or in an alternate format. Given the regional rooting, we are curious to understand which session ideas elevate examples of work and/or communities in the Midwest region. This is not a required criteria to be selected and all geographies are of interest.
